I am a storyteller and connector. In my artistic vision my art provokes thoughts and questions surrounding identity, community, politics, and spirituality. As a 1.5-generation Vietnamese American interdisciplinary artist and organizer, I have very great interest in creating spaces and platforms for cross-cultural storytelling and in stimulating critical discourse that challenges inequality at the intersection of cultures and social justice. My experiences as a conscious person of color working with communities inside, outside and beyond the United States have informed my framing of realities, visions and possibilities. I am also deeply influenced by my family and friends as well as fellow artists and changemakers from the past, present and beyond.
My desire is to preserve, visually, the stories from communities of color as well as the refugee and immigrant experience of migration and displacement in order to establish new narratives and modes of resistance. My ongoing visual research projects also result in the capturing of communities undergoing changes around me. I am particularly interested in creative collaborations, the intersections of arts, cultures and activism as well as those who are willing to step out of bounds. In addition, the arts serve as portals into realms of re-imaginations pivotal to restructuring the status quo and speaking truth to power. Finally, I have a responsibility to create and facilitate work that contributes positively to both my local and global community.
